What can Private Pickle do for you?
Festivals, private parties, intimate gigs, bars, breweries, clubs and wedding functions; Mr Pickle can facilitate a multitude of events. With a steeped history in client services Pickle’s skills behind the music is delivered with a highly professional customer experience.
Outside of music, Rob, started his professional career within food services and included 2 years as a headwaiter for a wedding and specialised functions venue at a prestigious country estate in the UK. Working closely with the entire event management team he was involved with room design, staff leadership and responsible for the head table service. He truly understands what is involved in the construct and delivery of a well-organised event.
6 years at a top tier investment bank in the city of London, Rob was a senior member within the operations department. Organising a highly demanding schedule whilst delicately managing a diverse range of internal and external clients, Rob’s overall service, attention to detail and effective project delivery is deeply ingrained in his professional make up.
His life in the South West truly showcases his breadth of talents. By day you would find him as the assistant venue manager at one of the newest and most exciting cellar door and restaurants in the Margaret River region – Fishbone. By night you could catch him DJing his Sunday Session at the hottest new venue in the Margaret River township – Brewhouse, or at a number of other venues in the area, both local and regional festivals and possibly at a local after party or sunset BBQ!
What about the music?
Rich passion for music is core. A vast range of interests and genres keeps Pickle diverse in his offering although his meticulous attention to detail and uncompromising level of performance remains consistent throughout. Whether he is getting the crowd pumping at a high-energy event, delicately composing a background ambiance or enticing a crowd from the dining table to the dance floor Private Pickle holds his understanding of emotion at the heart of his DJing skill – it’s not simply about playing music.
Ask him what music he plays… he would say “music that has emotion, that has energy, that moves people in the way that moment deserves.”
Every gig whether an opening set at a beer house, closing set at a festival or a wedding service will entail an appropriate consultation. I want you to get to know my passion, my professionalism and my delivery whilst together we ensure your brief remains centred as I structure my performance.

“Robert had such a professional approach to our wedding. He came organised with documents and was very easy to contact with any questions. He went over and beyond in scoping out the venue with us before the wedding to ensure everything went to perfection, and it really did. The energy in the room on our wedding night was so high and everyone had a blast dancing the night away. Thanks heaps Rob, would not hesitate to recommend you to any of our friends getting married that way.”
Ankita & Brendan Lewis’s Wedding
“I had great faith in Rob right from the very first phone call, his professional approach, enthusiasm and energy said everything, which continued through every correspondence that we had, so I never doubted for a minute that our wedding reception was going to be anything except a fabulous party. Rob tailored the music so that everyone enjoyed themselves, we equally enjoyed Rob enjoying what he was doing too.
You came and left without a minutes interruption to our own busy preparations, but we felt like you were one of our great friends when we said goodnight to you. Thank you, you are a Super Star!”
Annie & John Small’s Wedding
“We had the pleasure of Private Pickle being Brewhouse Margaret River’s house DJ for our very first summer. He created a legacy for the Brewhouse, turned it into a pumping lather of sweat and beats and smiles. Brings an energy that the crowd feeds off. A DJ at the next level – bring on next summer yeewwwww!”
Iliya Hastings – General Manager, Brewhouse, Margaret River
“Robbie ‘Private Pickle’ Southgate is one of the most exciting DJs I’ve seen in the south west. Confidence to take on any dance floor at any time, infectious energy from behind the decks and a deep understanding of music are just some of the reasons I’d recommend this DJ to anyone.”
Jeremy Bos – Papazahns, Blazing Swan
“A lot of great musicians pass through the vibrant Margaret River creative culture and as I’ve been immersed in that scene myself for over 20 years I’ve seen a lot come and go. But every now and again someone comes along who really makes an impact and pushes things up a notch. Rob Southgate, aka Private Pickle, is one such act.
With just the right blend of charisma and humility, this UK native brings a big vibe and a whole lotta love to every dance floor that he plays. With seamless mixing and a massive, diverse library of banging tunes, Private Pickle has been passionately rocking things in the South West over the last year. Playing big house parties, the West Australian Circus Festival, the South West Craft Beer Fest, Blazing Swan and a host of other events, Private Pickle has been winning fans over with his wicked, uplifting tracks and obvious happiness behind the decks.
Simultaneously building his reputation as a confident and adaptable DJ, whilst refining the art of producing his own sweet dance tunes, it seems that busy and successful times are destined indeed for this switched on young artist.”
Lee Cummings – Down South Entertainment
“Rob/Private Pickle was such a pleasure to work with during the Emergence Creative Festival 2016. We used him at a number of our satellite events and on all levels was extremely impressed. Organised, easy-going and understood the vibe (often changing) of our audience and got the party started when necessary. Will definitely be using him again!”
Erin Molloy – Festival Director, Emergence Creative Festival
